Handoff notes that survive shift changes
Patterns for recording unfinished visits and client constraints so the next crew—and next week’s report—stay aligned.
Shift changes lose unfinished visits when notes live in someone’s head or a chat thread that scrolls away. A durable handoff names the address, the open reason, the parts or access constraint, and whether the client expects a call before the next attempt.
Write it before the crew leaves the last gate of the day. The next morning’s route sheet should carry those lines into the planned list, and the weekly report should inherit them into the exception annex without retyping.
When handoffs are thin, reporting looks optimistic until a client asks about a job that never resurfaced. Spend ten minutes on the notebook; save an hour of Friday reconstruction.
