What belongs in a visit log—and what only clutters it

A field-tested checklist for the columns that feed reliable service delivery reporting without slowing crews at the door.

A useful visit log captures arrival window, outcome, revisit flag, parts or access notes, and the name of the person who closed the door conversation. Anything beyond that should earn its column by feeding a weekly chart or an exception annex.

Drop free-text essays that nobody reads on Monday. Drop decorative status colours that do not map to your SLA language. Keep one consistent code for “client reschedule” so reports do not invent three synonyms for the same delay.

Train crews on the short list at the vehicle, not in a classroom slide. The log only helps service delivery reporting if it survives a humid afternoon and a rushed handoff.
